Electric and Hydrogen Without Petroleum

Posted 27 Oct 2008

Imagine yourself in a vehicle that has to refuel or re-energize and so you have to go to the nearest station. But its not a gas station or petroleum stop, it’s an electric plug-in and/or a hydrogen fill-up. Instead of watching your money go down into your gas tank, you will be pumping cheap hydrogen into your vehicle. Sure hydrogen will not be cheap for the first years, but that is because it is new to the market and it will only take time for the supply and demand curve to change. Another obstacle that automobile developers are facing, besides the initial high cost for consumers, is the safety of the vehicle for storing this highly flammable substance. With General Motors in the process to solve this safety concern we people in America should refrain from relying on petroleum for our vehicles.

Well what are we to do now, today? People need to invest in fuel-efficient cars, get rid of sport-utility vehicles, and conserve fuel. By conserving fuel we will drive the prices of gasoline down for the demand will be at a low, which will help your finances. How do you conserve fuel besides the obvious reasons of getting a fuel-efficient car and just not driving as much? The following are ways people in America can conserve fuel: carpool, use mass transit, plan out your day so you are not making frequent trips, and ride a bike if you live in the city.

So why are carmakers developing electric vehicles? Electric vehicles do not pollute and we have an abundant amount of it. Electric also gives us people in America a nice transition from petroleum based fuel to electric while hydrogen is being fully developed and finalized. But once hydrogen comes out we should look to making it become our fuel for our vehicles. Even though hydrogen might be expensive in the beginning, but in a few years once more and more people demand the new fuel it will always be at an affordable, stable price. This is because hydrogen is man-made, therefore we have an unlimited supply of it. Just be prepared for going from petroleum to electric to hydrogen and electric combined within a couple of years. America needs to refrain from the use of petroleum as it holds no future. Sure we can drill other places, but those places will be dry sometime. Try something new from the fuel menu.
