Microsoft’s Formal Launch of Silverlight 3
At 10 AM (Pacific time zone), in the Bay Area, Microsoft will launch and release its new Silverlight. [Silverlight] is a browser plug-in that works with all major operating systems including Linux that allows companies to design, develop, and deliver applications for the web. Today, Microsoft will launch Silverlight 3. [Ars Technica] received an email about the launch date on May 28, so it is expected to be formally released today. This new release’s mission is to compete with [Adobe's Flash Player] that continues to be popular. So, basically Microsoft is doing what Google has been trying to do to Microsoft the past couple of months. In the sense, of Google coming out with [Chrome], to compete with Microsoft’s [Internet Explorer] and now mentioning a possible new operating system to compete with the ever popular [Windows].
The interesting fact, is that this new Silverlight is not compatible with the following browsers: Chrome and Opera. Hmmmm.
The new [Silverlight 3] will have six new features added that make it better than Silverlight 2. Three of these new features are: [smooth streaming], [new controls], and [out of browser]. Specifically, the new out of browser feature will compete with [Adobe Air]. Adobe Air and now Silverlight 3 will deliver applications that are viewed and run outside the browser. The applications that have been created are: [FedEx Desktop] that allows people to view their shipment and tracking information and [TweetDeck] that gives people using a Twitter a better way of tweeting and view tweets.

Above is the email received by Ars Technica and others regarding the launch for Silverlight 3, directly from Microsoft.
